At the start of this blog, I want to write this differently. Rather than you reading it, I want to be involved and participate by reflecting. Allow me to ask you a simple question that needs a simple answer.

“If you have only 30 days to love, what would like to do differently?”
(I want you to take your time to think about this before we proceed.)

If your answer is very different from what you are doing now, it means to say that you are not living the life that you want to live. You may be force to do something today because you need to do it not because you want to do it. You may be earning a living but the question is do we really have a life? Are you progressing or are you regressing? Are you thriving or are you surviving? Are you growing or are you dying?

Just imagine, if you know today is your last day. What will you be really doing?

Will you visit your aging parents and tell them “I love you.”

Will you ask for forgiveness from your friends and sibling that you hurt in the past?

Will you visit the places you have in your bucket list and get to see the places you have never seen before?

Will you invest more time with your kids and your spouse rather than staying at the office and work longer hours?

Will you invest more of your time with the eternal things like having a personal relationship with your God rather than the spending your life with the temporal things that can only give you temporary happiness?
What would like to do? How would live your life differently?

Why wait for that day to come? Why don’t we wake up everyday and give our very best and think this will be our last day.

We need to live our life everyday as if today is our last day.

Never live a life of regret but let us live a life of contentedness!

Just like Steve Job’s philosophy founder of Apple

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, some day you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. ~Stanford University, 2005

A 4th Placer in the 1989 Bar Examinations is the Chief Public Attorney of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), an agency that is mandated to give free legal assistance to indigent clients.

People often see her as a tough warrior and is willing to defend the poor’s rights being trampled by the influential and powerful. Little that we know, she is just an ordinary housewife with 2 children, who also cooks and do normal house hold chores. When she was our guest last July 29, 2012 Sunday at our program Chink + she spilled it all out. Narrating her passion to fight crime stems from her life of hardships, born from a family of poor farmers with 9 siblings. The only way she can maintain her schooling was to become a scholar all the way to college. The strong influence of her mother really made an impact in her life that molded her to be the person that she is today. She quoted the three guiding principles as if it was only taught to her yesterday.

Value of Education

“The only thing I can promise you is the gift of education” Persida’s mother told her. Education is one of the greatest equalizer, opening door of opportunities to everyone, whether rich or poor, powerful or less influential. Knowledge gives you unfair advantage and power over someone who does not know what he is talking about. Never allow the lack of education rob you the opportunity to become the person that God wanted you to be.

Learn How To Look Back

We should be reminded that we came from nothing and we can bring nothing out of this world. She was often reminded by her mother that we should not be proud of whatever thing we have achieved, since we also came from humble beginnings. Never allow money, fame or success get into our head and make us believe that we are far more important than others.

Faith In God

“Apart from God we are nothing. It is only God who can grant us the ability and the strength to become successful. Without his guidance, grace and wisdom, I will not be able to make the right decision in every case that passes through my office.” Acosta mentioned.

I really felt her sincerity, her dedication and her passion while she was narrating the reason why God put her in a place in a time like this.

“God entrusted me with this power and I need to be a good caretaker. For I want to face Him one day and I want Him to tell me, “Well done good and faithful servant, you can come home now.”

Now I know where she draws her inner strength and moral ascendency.

The source is from the foundation of her roots, knowing how to look back where she came from and the most important thing, her faith in God.

Because of this episode, many people texted, called over the phone line and send their words of appreciation on how the life of Persida has inspired them to think positive and know how to overcome challenges despite the odds. Walking out from the radio of TV 5 that day was one of my most unforgettable and surreal experience as a radio anchor for Chink +. It gives me great pleasure and honor to be entrusted by the management to handle a show that can really touch lives, inspiring them to become the best that they can be and giving hope to people who are feeling hopeless.

Thank you to Radyo 5, to my TV 5 family and most especially to God for granting me the opportunity!

Taipei 101 is one the tallest buildings in Asia and for a time was considered as the tallest skyscraper in the world. It stretches over half a kilometer long, with 101 floors from the ground. It has also the fastest-moving elevator in the world that can reach the top speed of over 37 miles per hour. How fast is fast? Imagine going up 89 floors in a record time of 30 seconds. This is as quick as one TV commercial.

This building is located at the heart of the city of Taipei. My wife and I were totally mesmerized and amazed by the fact that this kind of structure exists. If you are at the top of the building, you would be able to have a glimpse of the whole of Taipei. If you finish the guided tour of Taipei, it is as if you have already seen and toured the entire city.
It was a blessing that our hotel was only 10 minutes away from Taipei 101. Just in case one would get lost, he needs not to be afraid. All that one needs to do would be to tell the taxi driver to bring him to Taipei 101 and he would already be able to find his way going to the hotel.
Our point of reference when we were there was Taipei 101. Wherever we went, when it was time to come home, we just informed the taxi drivers that Taipei 101 was our destination, then the they all gave their nod and brought us there.

Now what does the building of Taipei has to do with my blog?

This whole building of Taipei 101 just reminded me of one important lesson while we were navigating and discovering a foreign land. “Never be afraid of getting lost. In case I am lost, all I need to do is just go back to Taipei 101 and I will just be 10 minutes away from home.”

This paints a picture of having a relationship with God. The place you are entering may be an unfamiliar territory. The new business you are starting maybe or the course you are taking may be so new to you. The relationship that you are developing may seem to be mysterious to you. You may be asking and wondering if what you are doing is the right thing, and if you are moving to the right direction. If you feel unsure and lost, all you need to do is just go back to God. The building of Taipei 101 reminded me of God. If ever I am lost in Taipei, Taipei 101 would be my point of reference, my light house. I should not be afraid and I should feel secure. Just in case I get lost in life, all I need to do is just go back to seeking God and I will be 10 minutes away from my true home.
Do you feel lost? Are you not sure with your decision making process? Do you feel stressed out and perplexed, wondering if you are heading onto the right direction? I think it is time for you to find your Taipei 101. It is a good thing that I found mine and now it is time to find yours.

No one is in control of what is going to happen now and in the future.

Since this is a given fact, how come some people still protest when things do not go their way?

For us to better understand why this is a common behavior, let us try to understand what the word ‘protest’ means.

Protest

Protest means going against or an expression of objection. Why do people protest? People protest or complain because they feel that they were treated unfairly.

Life is not fair when ….

People start judging us without getting the facts.

People start accusing us of something we did not do.

Good people die and bad people live long.

You work hard and never get noticed, while others do not but they still get the credit.

Someone in your office gets promoted because of seniority not because of performance.

Your line is not moving while the others are.

You get stuck in traffic for 30 minutes even though you are only 3 minutes away from the meeting place.

Someone else gets the credit for the work you did.
Believe it or not, I also had my share of injustice when I was still active in the movie industry. I was cast into a story conference and brainstorming with the producers for some ideas on how to make the film interesting with the commitment that I will also be part of the casts. We had several meetings on how my character is going to portray. But after a few weeks, I never heard any news again from the film outfit and soon to learn that they are already filming without me as part of the casts. I felt so used and abused, after milking the ideas off of me and for not fulfilling the commitment they made to make me a part of their casts. I did protest and tried to get in touch with the producers but to no avail. It affected me mentally, emotionally and also financially since I felt betrayed and abused. But I discovered, the more I dwell on what happened to me in the past, the more I cannot move on in life. I felt like a hamster running inside a wheel barrow.

Because of this experience I learned to do the following:

Stop protesting and complaining that life is not fair.

Start realizing, the more I protest the longer it would take for me to move on.

Start accepting that I can never change the past.

Start doing the right things in order to make things happen!
God allowed me to go through that experience not to hurt me but to make me stronger and to learn from my mistakes so that I will never repeat it again. God taught me to become wiser and better in my dealing with people.
Admit it or not bad things happen to all of us. Yes, even to ‘good’ people. This is part of life. The earlier we admit that life is not fair the better it will be for us. We must notwait for life to treat us fairly in order for us to become successful. Stop complaining and do something!

Successful people in all fields know that they can never get to where they are alone. They need, seek out, and encourage relationships with mentors who will help them achieve more. Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Steve Jobs, the greatest names in the greatest industries and greatest sports have had important guidance from a coach or mentor.

You know what you need to do to achieve success. What you need is something or someone – who will help you achieve your goals more efficiently. Whether you are an entrepreneur looking to get ahead, or an athlete training, whether you’re a student in school or a housewife managing her household’s finances, it always helps to have a coach.

A Filipino life coach is essential to Filipinos looking to take his life to the next level. Many Filipino entrepreneurs need more than just motivational speakers; they need a Filipino mentor, a Filipino life coach with the right experience and understanding of her or his culture and circumstances.

Having a Filipino life coach will:

o Help you develop and stick to a life vision and goals;
o Keep you focused as you work on them;
o Support you in low moments;
o Identify any potentially disruptive behavior that can and will stop you from achieving your fullest potential;
o Encourage you to do your best, and be your accountability partner to see you through;
o Help you become more efficient; and
o Hold you accountable to your values.

When you have a Filipino life coach supporting, encouraging, challenging, and guiding you towards your goals, you can and will achieve them in faster time and with less effort wasted.

It is so difficult to live up to the expectations of other people. It seems like that you are going through the hoop in order to please them. The expectations are too high, it seems to be an unreachable and an impossible task. They often focus on the things you are doing wrong rather than the thing you have done right. Your decisions and every move is too calculated because you are too afraid to make mistakes, it seems like that you are walking on thin ice or walking on soft egg shells that it might break anytime. If you have experienced or are experiencing this situation, you are not alone. One thing I learned in life is to work with people who sincerely believes in you. Look for a group of people who will look at your potential rather than your failures. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you not discourage you. People who will inspire hope and not steal your dreams away from you. You are created for greatness and live out your dreams. Never allow people to treat you like a rag, they will only use you and when you are not anymore useful they will just dump you into the trash bin. Let us find the place and the people who will accept us for who we are and not because of what we can do for them and not because of what we can become!
